A pastor appeared in the Dansoman Circuit Court on 29 July 2025, charged with publishing a TikTok prophecy predicting the assassination of dancehall star Shatta Wale. The charges raised urgent concerns over prophetic speech, defamation, and potential threats to national stability.

This came just days after entertainer Shatta Wale demanded action: “Arrest Reverend Donkoh—the police have one week,” he demanded publicly, accusing the pastor of fueling unrest with baseless speculation  . Legal experts weighed in on whether religious speech is protected under freedom of expression or whether such declarations become criminal when they forecast targeted violence.

Church groups defended the pastor, calling for due process and the right to spiritual prophecy. Meanwhile, critics condemned the platforming of sensational claims that deeply impact public figures. Civil society groups urged the courts to set precedent—distinguishing between legitimate spiritual discourse and reckless public provocation.

As proceedings continue, the case is expected to test Ghana’s legal boundaries around speech, religion, and public safety in the digital age.
