A Ghanaian university graduate has gone viral for working as a manhole digger, urging youth to prioritize skills over academic papers amid job market struggles.
A graduate of the University of Ghana’s Business School, identified as Kofi, has sparked debate by taking a job as a manhole digger in Accra. In a candid TikTok video, he advised young Ghanaians: “Your certificate isn’t a job guarantee. Learn a skill, face the world.”

The post, shared on August 14, 2025, highlights youth unemployment frustrations, with over 120,000 graduates entering a shrinking job market this year. Critics argue systemic failures force educated Ghanaians into informal work, while supporters praise Kofi’s “practical wisdom.”
