A 47-year-old fan from Liverpool has been arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence after allegedly racially abusing Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo during Bournemouth’s Premier League opener at Anfield.
The game was briefly halted when Semenyo reported the abuse to the referee. Police identified and ejected the suspect and later arrested him. Semenyo responded to the incident with composure, scoring twice despite the abuse.

He later expressed heartfelt thanks to his Bournemouth teammates, Liverpool players, fans, and match officials for their support. FIFA’s Players’ Voice Panel is stepping in to offer support. The Premier League, Liverpool FC, and other football bodies condemned racism and reaffirmed their zero-tolerance policy.
