Veteran broadcaster Blessed “Captain” Smart has stepped forward to defend controversial Ghanaian preacher Prophet Samuel Henry, popularly known as Prophet Roja, after the prophet faced fierce criticism on social media. Captain Smart urged Ghanaians to treat spiritual matters with respect and warned against unfairly targeting the man of God for his prophecy concerning the late Dr. Edward Omane Boamah.

What sparked the controversy?

On August 5, Roja released a video urging Dr. Omane Boamah, then Ghana’s Defence Minister, to contact him urgently. No further details were revealed  . A day later, on August 6, Dr. Omane Boamah tragically died in a Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crash near Obuasi, alongside seven other officials, including Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed  . Roja had earlier prophesied a plane crash on July 29, signaling aviation danger and urging prayer—his messages gained traction after the helicopter disaster  .

Captain Smart’s defense

In a viral video shared with YEN.com.gh, Captain Smart questioned why Roja had become a target for criticism rather than praise:

“So when the Prophet asked the late Minister to contact him, is everyone trying to tell me that no one knew Omane Boamah? Why are you attacking the said prophet now? Who did he insult? What wrong did he do?… Something we think we are literates but life is spiritual, whether you believe it or not.”

Smart stressed that Roja’s prophecy appeared to be a divine vision, not a disrespectful attack, and lamented that no one within the minister’s circle had acted on the warning.

Mixed reaction online

Captain Smart’s remarks have sparked strong responses across social media:

@Gerrad S. Boateng: “Today de3, Igbo sub chief is making sense.”

@Jazlin depa: “Since Smart was born, it is only today that he has made sense.”

@Sunshine: “Hmm his wife should have followed up. Sometimes men don’t really take things like this seriously.”

Threats against Prophet Roja

The reaction hasn’t been limited to words. Prophet Roja later revealed that he had received threats following the attention his prophecy garnered  .

Why this matters

The incident highlights a deep public fascination with prophetic voices in Ghana. It raises ethical questions about responsibility—should those receiving warnings act upon them? It underscores the tension between faith-based insights and public judgment.
